Auschwitz/Birkenau May 2006

Here a little picture montage from last May's trip to Auschwitz and Birkenau... I put it up on 'You Tube'

Shooby Taylor - The Music Speaks for Itself...

I discovered Shooby a few years ago. It was only now that I 'rediscovered' him...
Please grab a listen...

I've included the lyrics (if that's what they are...) for you to enjoy and sing along with if you will...these have been painstakingly copied syllable by syllable here for your enjoyment.
You may have to open two windows and navigate back here to listen and read along at the same time - which I highly recommend...

Here We Go Again

Here I am sitting in the Aldergrove Legion...(they have a computer...). I am here because Cease and Desist is hired to do a private party in the next room...
There's a band setting up right now...right beside me actually...looks to be a husband and wife duo - from what I can tell...
It seems very strange that tomorrow morning I will be leaving for Warsaw yet again...after sitting here....

****

Tonight will be interesting because Jack Guppy (from The Barney Bentall Band) is filling in for Marc on drums. Marc is already in Warsaw with Dorota his new wife. Very hard thing to do...marry someone you love and live across the world from each other waiting for immigration...

It seems ironic that Canadians seem to think that immigration is a cakewalk in Canada...judging from all the work and documentation Marc and Dorota have had to do, it is not easy at all...

****

It's not like she's poor...it's not like she's uneducated...it's not like it's a 'fixed' marriage for her to get Canadian status...they have proof that they've been dating (albiet long distance) for a few years...

Dorota works for the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw and owns two homes outright, and speaks 4-5 languages fluently...she would be an asset to any country she chooses to live in...

But - I'm rambling...

There's a smoking room in here - there's a guy with a folk guitar in there with a bunch of people sitting around having a sing-a-long...

The sing-a-long...always so much of a 'gathering' thing...people love music...

****

Unfortunately - some woman is now howling 'Your Cheating Heart' - and boy is it baaaaad...!...But that's not the point...it's about sharing...and it's got a sweetness about it...

******

Okay - I have to get back to start being an entertainer now...

No mud on me *****

(I just clapped for her...)

Next post from Warsaw...

Camping in Penticton

Well - touting it as a science experiment, I ventured off last week into uncharted waters...yes - Mick went camping...

How it started was, my high school buddy, Mark Middaugh (who also happens to be my sister-in-law's brother) had said that he was coming out to the coast from Calgary (where he now lives) with his son to visit me and that they were tenting along the way.

Thinking I could give his drive a break on the way and thinking that this was something I could try, I suggested Penticton to him. It's roughly about half way.

I had heard of a campground on the lake there, and with some research ** found the place and gave him directions to join me.

I accumulated some gear from friends **, bought some stuff - and I was off on a new adventure.
We had a great time - and hooked up with some new people and their kids. As we were sitting talking one afternoon, who should come by but my friend Jamie Meyer who was also here with some family and his daughter.

I had to leave to play Thursday through Saturday with Cease and Desist (Saturday's gig was when this cartoon was drawn) and then Sunday for an ill-fated gig with Randy Bachman. Since Jamie and my other new friends were still here (Mark went home Sunday morning from my place), I came back to hang some more...

It's interesting for me to relax...but alas, I discovered the campground is wireless, so here I sit again...

Oh - about my face? Getting more 'normal' everyday - I figure that in a month it will have settled into itself, and I will post new pictures then...

Have a great day all...
